The Interim PAUSTI Alumni Committee visited Philips Electronics Africa, Wednesday June, 7 2017, (Landmark Plaza, 4th Floor, Nairobi – Kenya) in line with one of their duties of visiting the Alumni at their workplaces. The move aims to foster collaborations between the Alumni and PAUSTI. The delegation was received by Mr. Otieno Albert Orwa, an Alumnus and graduate of Statistical Mathematics who works as a Research Scientist at Philips.

In his welcoming remarks, Head of Research Africa- Philips, Dr. Bahaa Eddine Sarroukh acknowledged the importance of Alumni networks and their potential in helping move Africa forward. He noted that the gesture of visiting Mr Albert was an indication of the importance the Association attaches to its Alumni in the search for Innovation. He further highlighted his engagements with The Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES) where he delivered some lectures. A brief about Philips was also given including emphasizing its two notions of The Africa Incubator and Research Africa that are located in Nairobi with projects inclined to Health Care with much focus on children.

Interim Chair Alumni Association, Mr. Gavamukulya, made a presentation about The Pan African University (PAU), PAUSTI, and the PAUSTI Alumni where he noted the range and diversity of programs offered at PAUSTI, as well as the global distribution of the PAUSTI Alumni. Possible areas of collaboration that were presented include internships, joint research collaborations, industrial visits, workshops and seminars among others. Contributions and discussions from the different delegates supplemented the presentation.

The team to Philips included the PAUSTI Alumni and Staff who included Ms Hannah Ngugi (Treasurer and PhD Candidate in Civil Engineering), Mr. Edwel Tafara Mharakurwa (General Secretary and PhD Candidate in Electrical Engineering, Mr Juma (PAUSTI Transport Department) and Isaac Oteyo (PAUSTI ICT Section and Coordinator Alumni Office).
