JKUAT Student leadership has pledged to enhance a close working relationship with the university administration that would guarantee smooth running of the University especially where students are concerned.
Jomo Kenyatta University Student Association (JKUSA) through its Chairperson, Mr. Ibrahim Boru, said his association will work with the University leadership to address the challenges students face. He expressed the sentiments when he led the seven-member Students’ Council to a meeting with the University Management, September 18, 2018.
The Students’ Council appreciated the University management for giving them an opportunity to exchange views with management saying it was the right step towards bringing the University administration closer to the students.
Commending the Students’ Council for its avant-garde leadership, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Victoria Ngumi encouraged dialogue between the University administration and the students.
“We have an open door policy and I am confident that with consultation between the administration and students, we will be able to have a cordial relationship in our engagements,” elucidated Prof. Ngumi.
She appealed to JKUSA to plan early for their various student activities in the University and sensitize the students to adhere to the policies governing the Institution such as the fee paying policy and the alcohol, drugs and substance abuse policy among others.
“I implore you to be ambassadors of good behavior and embolden your fellow students to be peer counselors to one another. With the rampant drug abuse facing the youth, be your brothers and sisters keeper and guide them accordingly,” advised Prof. Ngumi.
She urged the student fraternity to conduct themselves with dignity and decorum. “As students, you are champions of the University with the mandate of propelling the Institution’s name to greater heights.”
The meeting was attended by Deputy Vice Chancellors; Prof. Otoki Moirongo, Prof. Bernard Ikua, Prof. Robert Kinyua, Dean of Students, Ms. Emma Omulokoli, Deputy Dean of Students, Mr. William Nyariki and the Chief Security Officer, Francis Mwaniki among others.
