Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has put in place comprehensive Information Communications Technology (ICT) measures to enhance its service delivery obligations to its stakeholders.
Addressing participants attending an ICT workshop at JKUAT, Friday 27, 2012, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mabel Imbuga, emphasized the importance of effective ICT in driving growth and productivity in modern organizations. She added that ICT also plays an important role in innovation, citing Kenya’s success story of MPESA technology.
Prof. Imbuga, in a speech read by Mr. J Kamau, deputy Registrar- Academic Affairs, further opined that it was only through adoption of sound ICT that the country could effectively respond to the current surge in the number of students seeking higher education following the introduction of free primary education.
In line with JKUAT’s vision to be a University of global excellence in Training, Research and Innovation for development, the VC reiterated the need to “harness ICT to facilitate effective and efficient management of student affairs, staff, corporate communications and marketing, as well as training, research and innovation.”
The workshop that was organized by the ICT directorate was also attended by Acting ICT Director, Boniface Mwirigi Kiula and Regina Mutoko, the ICT and Multimedia Director- USIU.
During the workshop, a number of the varsity ICT staff were rewarded for their exemplary performance.
