University Council, Management and the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA) have signed a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Friday, September, 27, 2013.
The move, which will see members enjoy better perks which entail Office to house allowance, Passage and baggage allowance, leave allowance among others, follows the successful conclusion of negotiations between the JKUAT Council (employer) and the workers (KUDHEIHA). The good news is that the 2012 -2013 CBA benefits have been backdated to July 1st2012.
Speaking at the function, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mabel Imbuga thanked the Union officials and its entire membership for being the first Union Chapter to conclude the negotiations and sign the CBA.
Prof. Imbuga assured the Union leadership that the “University Management would remain open for dialogue at all times whenever there is something that needs to be addressed.”
The Vice Chancellor further urged the members to espouse the highest standards of integrity, accountability and professionalism as outlined in the University’s core values.
In his remarks, the National Secretary General of KUDHEIHA Mr. Albert Njeru reflected on the journey that culminated to the signing ceremony which saw the union become the first union to sign with the employer and appreciated the university management for according them the privilege, and restated the unions readiness to work with the university management and employer for the mutual benefit of the staff and the institution.
The signing ceremony was witnessed and attended by among others; Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs Prof. Romanus Odhiambo; Registrar – Administration, Planning and Development Mr. Muchai Mbugua; Finance Officer Mr Titus Wasike; Richard Wokabi (Legal Office) among others. KUDHEIHA officials present from JKUAT Chapter included: Samuel Imo (Chairman), Immaculate Ndekei (Secretary) and Sammy Kamami (Shop steward). Others were Hellen Ndung’u and Alice Mureithi, Industrial Relations Officers from KUDHEIHA headquarters.
