New students admitted to JKUAT reported to their various campuses Monday, August 31, 2015 to launch their university academic life.
Already, the registration exercise is underway, with students undergoing orientation in their respective Colleges/Faculty and Schools.
The number of male and female students admitted stands at 2,102 and 1,508 respectively, bringing the total number to 3,610.
The College of Pure and Applied Sciences (COPAS) tops the admission charts with the highest admission of 1224 students spread across all its programs.
Compared to the same admission in 2014, this year’s intake has seen a rise in numbers from 2597 to 3610.
This has been attributed to better performance at KCSE Level in 2014, hence more students joining universities; an increase in the number of new academic programmes that has seen more students admitted to the programmes; students preference for JKUAT because of quality and accreditation recognition of her programmes, and the relative stability and predictable academic calendar that has driven prospective students to seek transfers.
A total of 16 new programs have for the first time admitted students starting this September: The new programmes effective September, 2015 include: Bachelor of Real Estate, B.Sc. Environmental Science, B.Sc. Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences, B.Sc. Industrial Mathematics, B.Sc. Corporate Communication and Management, B.Sc. Innovation Technology Management, B.Sc. Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (Soil, Water & Environment).
Continuing students are expected to report to Main Campus on Thursday, September 3, and classes commence Monday, September 7.
