Dr. Peter Njoroge Mwangi is the new Dean School of Biological Sciences after garnering twenty three (23) votes against his opponent Prof. Mary Wanyoike who got eight (8) votes.
Dr Mwangi, a Senior Lecturer, Botany Department was also voted in Wednesday, September 30, 2020. He takes over from Dr Shadrack Muya who served for the last four years.
Speaking to the faculty after his win, Dr. Mwangi appreciated their support and assured them of his commitment in working with both Zoology and Botany departments within the School.
“As I start my tenure, I wish to call upon both teaching and non-teaching staff to work together so that we can realize our mission. I also acknowledge the manifesto fronted by Prof. Wanyoike in her campaign and I look forward to working with her to implement those great ideas,” said Dr. Mwangi.
Prof. Wanyoike congratulated the incoming Dean and commended him as one who had earned his victory. She said she was grateful for the exposure and experience gained during the election campaigns.
Meanwhile, Prof. Stanley Kamau was unanimously elected unopposed, Thursday, October 1, 2020, as the new Dean, School of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Kamau thanked the faculty members for supporting him as evidenced in the pre-election discussions he held with them, and pledged to expedite issues such as curriculum review, accreditation of programmes, acquisition of new equipment, registration of postgraduates and other faculty staff to professional bodies so as to boost career growth, as well as look into staffing levels and promotions.
Prof. Kamau also said that he looks forward to more collaborations and implored the faculty to source for research funding as much as they can. “I believe that the School will continue to foster the existing University-Industry liaison with organizations such as Safaricom, Ketraco, and others.”
In congratulating the new Dean, Dr. Roy Orenge (Chair, Electrical Engineering Department) and Eng. Julius Weru (Telecommunications Engineering Department) endorsed Prof. Kamau as an excellent fit for the position given his experience and expertise at the School.
During both elections, the Registrar Academic Affairs, Dr. Esther Muoria congratulated the new deans noting that she has had a great working relationship with them in the past.
