The School of Biosystems and Environmental Engineering (SOBEE) has elected Dr. Eng. Gareth Kituu as the new Dean.
The elections held, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 saw Dr. Kituu, elected unopposed and effectively takes over from Prof. Urbanus Mutwiwa, who has served as the founding Dean, School of Biosystems and Environmental Engineering for the last 8 years.
Congratulating the new Dean, the Returning Officer and Registrar Academics, Dr. Esther Muoria, asked the new Dean to discharge the duties and responsibilities of the new office with dedication and commitment and wished him all the best in executing them.
Dr. Muoria said, “The job of the Dean is not an easy one … We do not take up these higher duties because it is easy, but because we are equal to the task.” She re-assured the incoming Dean of her unwavering support during his tenure at SOBEE.
In his brief acceptance remarks, Dr. Kituu said, his first task would be to fast-track the accreditation of all academic programmes with the Engineers Board of Kenya, especially those programmes that are undergoing the accreditation process.
His other assignment, the new Dean said, would be to assess the overall human resource needs and status in the Departments under the School of Biosystems and Environmental Engineering to ensure the School has adequate staff to deliver on the University mandate of training and research.
While passing on the baton to the incoming Dean, the outgoing Dean, Prof. Mutwiwa, congratulated the new Dean and wished him well and pledged to support his administration. The brief declaration of the results ceremony was also witnessed by staff from the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering SOBEE – Eng. Samuel Njuguna and Mr. Alfayo Anyangu, as well as the Presiding Clerk, Aggrippina Muhenje.
