MSc Telecommunications Engineering

This programme is intended for Engineers with suitable qualification and/or professional experience who wish to study further or expand their range of expertise in Telecommunication Engineering. The courses offered are tailored to meet the requirements for the telecommunication industries and institutions for Kenya’s long term development for economic growth.

Entry Requirements

i.  A holder of at least second class honours, Upper Division, Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Electronic and Computer Engineering; or Telecommunication and Information Engineering of JKUAT.

ii. A holder of at least a second class honours, upper division, Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunication Engineering, from any other institution, which is recognised by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status to the programmes in i ; or

iii. A holder of  a Bachelor of Science degree of at least second class honours, upper division, in a related field which is recognised by the University Senate as an adequate prerequisite for the MSc. in Telecommunication Engineering.

iv. Holders of a second class honours, lower division, Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Electronic and Computer Engineering; or Telecommunication and Information Engineering of JKUAT, or of any other institution which is recognised by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status, and who in addition must show proof of either two years relevant experience and professional development or academic advancement through research and publication since graduation with the bachelors degree.

v. A holder of other qualifications recognized by JKUAT Senate as being equivalent to i, ii and iii .

vi. A holder of a JKUAT postgraduate Diploma in Telecommunicaiton Engineering in the corresponding area of specialization – such a candidate will be exempted from the coursework part of the M.Sc. programme, which he will already have covered under the postgraduate diploma programme.

Structure and duration of the course

The duration of the Master of Science course shall be at least TWO academic years (18 months) from the date of registration.This will be done by course work, examination and thesis.

Each candidate shall take eight (8) units in the first year of study of which five (5) shall be core and three (3) elective in his/her chosen specialised area of study.
