**Entry Requirements**

Students aspiring to study the degree of B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computer Science must satisfy the Minimum University requirements and Faculty of Science entry requirements. A student to be admitted must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements;

either

must have passed Mathematics in the KCSE at a minimum grade of C+. In addition, a student must have passed in both subjects from one of the following alternatives :

Chemistry Physical Science

Physics Biological Science

or

1.2 have a minimum of 2 principal passes in Science subjects in General Certificate of Education (GCE)

Advanced Level/ Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE),

or

1.3 have a diploma in relevant subjects and with at least a credit pass from an Institution recognized by the University Senate,

or

1.4 have a diploma in Applied Sciences with at least a credit pass in relevant subjects from an Institution recognized by the University Senate,

or

1.5 have any other qualifications equivalent to 1.1 to 1.4 above.

Students who hold any of the qualifications 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 above may at the discretion of the Faculty of Science be admitted directly to the second year of the course in which case they may complete their course in a minimum of three academic years and maximum of five academic years.

A degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, students can become: Lecturers, Software developers, Computer engineers, ICT Managers, Bankers, Accountants among other areas.

What is the difference between Bsc. Computer Science ad Mathematics and Computer Science as there minimum academic requirements vary a great deal? Which between the two courses is more marketable and where is Mathematics and Computer Science knowledge applied in Kenya. Am coming to apply for this course very soon.

The only difference is Bsc. Computer Science and Mathematics require more of Mathematics units than BSc. Computer Science. They are equally related but there is more advantage in doing BSc. Mathematics and computer science for you will have more market advantage because of the Mathematics units. You can work in a Bank, in statistical fields, lecture etc

what if i have all the requirements except mathematics and i go for a bridging coarse in jkuat will i qualify???

We Don’t offer computer Engineering

There is Computer engineering in Jkuat, but its referred to as Electronic and Computer Engineering. It’s not offered under the faculty of science ADP programme though but under COTEC, the department of engineering in JKUAT. confer with that department for more details as they know best about that course.
