The Department of Medical Microbiology offers academic and research programs of study leading to the award of BSc, M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees suitable for a career in Microbiology or Infectious Diseases.

The Department of Medical Microbiology is domiciled in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the College of Health Sciences (COHES). The department was initially established as a sub-department in the Faculty of Science in 2006 and was moved to COHES in 2012. The Department conducts research and training in infectious diseases of humans. Scientists, graduate students and support and technical staff all work in the department.

At all levels,the leadership within the department guides the pursuit of our strategic goals and facilitates individual creativity, mentorship, coordination of work, and sharing of resources and opportunities. It ensures a friendly working environment of trust, respect and collegiality.
