MSc. Mechatronic Engineering

Introduction
The Master of Science in Mechatronic Engineering course spans for a period of at least eighteen (18) calendar months. Each candidate shall be required to take nine (9) units in their chosen field. In addition, a thesis shall be submitted as specified in the common regulations in all Faculties for the Master of Science Degree. The candidates shall be examined according to the University regulations.

The following courses shall be taken to complete a degree in Master of Science in Mechatronic Engineering:

YEAR 1 

Core Courses:
Semester 1
EMT  3101   Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology.
EMT  3102   Advanced CAD/CAM.
EMT  3103   Design of Mechanisms and Mechatronic Systems.
EMT  3104   Robust Control Theory.
EMT  3107   Applied Mathematics.

Semester 2
EMT  3106   Research Methodology.
EMT  3105   Advanced Sensors and Actuators.
EMT  3145   Manufacturing Systems.

Elective Courses:
EMT  3108   Intelligent Control and Robotics.
EMT  3109   Adaptive and Nonlinear Control.
EMT  3110   Laser Systems and Engineering Applications.
EMT  3111   Power Electronics and Motor Drives.
EMT  3120   Project.

Year 2 :  THESIS
EMT  3200   Thesis.

Entry Requirements

The following shall be eligible for admission into the Master of Science in Mechatronic Engineering at JKUAT:

(a) A holder of at least 2nd class honours, upper division, Bachelor of Science degree in Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, or,

(b) A holder of at least 2nd class honours, upper division, Bachelor of Science degree in Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering from any other Institution, which is recognized by the university senate as being of equivalent academic status, or,

(c) A holder of Bachelor of science degree of at least 2nd class honours, upper division, in a field which is recognized by the University Senate as an adequate prerequisite for the Master of Science degree in Mechatronic Engineering, or,

(d) A holder of Bachelor of science degree of at least 2nd class honours, lower division, in Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or in a field which is recognized by the University Senate as an adequate prerequisite for the Master of Science degree in Mechatronic Engineering, provided that the candidate has at least 2 years relevant industrial experience.
