Professor J. M. Kihiu has been elevated to the rank of full professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Prof. Kihiu holds a Masters and a Doctoral Degree in Mechanical Engineering with interdisciplinary specialization in machine components design, design modeling and applied mechanics from the University of Nairobi. He is a registered Engineer who has risen to the level of Fellow Member of Institute of Engineers of Kenya. Department of Mechanical engineering Tops in Departmental Website Ranking

The Department of Mechanical Engineering website has emerged tops taking its rightful position following the latest website ranking, an exercise carried out quarterly by the University website committee. This was a huge jump from position 35 (out of more than 50 departments in the university) in the first quarter ranking. Mentorship program for female students

Mechanical Engineering Department is proud to have about 30 female students enrolled in the various undergraduate programs including Mechanical, Marine and Mining Engineering courses.  Being the minority, the Department has put in place measures to ensure that the female students realize their full potential and succeed in the male dominated field. One of these measures is a Female Students Mentorship Program where the students meet every semester and guest speakers invited to share their experiences (both successes and challenges) as female Engineers in the field. Marine Engineering students awarded

The marine students who recently trained at the National Youth Service (NYS) were awarded with certificates for First Aid on 15th June 2012. The certificate confirms their competence in assisting victims requiring first aid attention in a given situation. The certificate award ceremony was presided over by Mr. Patrick Muchai who was their training commander at the NYS and Prof. B.W.
