History repeats itself as the staff team maintain unbeaten run

Every year the final year student and members of staff of the mechanical engineering department hold a soccer match after the projects presentations and demonstrations. This year the football match was held on 7th December 2012. This is the only department within JKUAT where such an event is held to cement a good relationship between the outgoing students (future alumnus of the department) and staff members. Annual welfare party at Lukenya Getaway

The mechanical and mechatronic welfare group comprising of all staff in both departments held this year’s annual party at the Lukenya Getaway on the Saturday 17th November 2012. Lukenya is about 10 km from on the outskirts of Nairobi. The main objective of the welfare association is to bring staff together in a range of team building activities so members of one big family who support each other at all times. The SOMME welfare group compromises of all the staff who work in the school teaching and non-teaching staff. On October 31, 2012, twenty-two Marine Engineering students graduated as cadets at a colorful ceremony that was held at the National Youth Service NYS training center in Gilgil. This was the second batch of cadets to graduate after successfully completing the month long training. NYS deputy director general, Mr. Muchiri, was the guest of honour. Second batch of Marine Engineering students admitted to the NYS cadet training program

On the 1st of October 2012, a group of 23 marine engineering students was admitted to the cadet training program at the National Youth Service in Gilgil, to undertake a rigorous cadet training course which prepares them both mentally and physically for the seaboard training. This is a mandatory requirement (as per STCW 1978 convention and code as amended) for all Marine Engineers.
