Department of Horticulture

The Department of Horticulture accommodates over 250 students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels of study. The department articulates the university’s vision of becoming a world class institution of excellence for development, by offering theoretical and practical training of the highest standard to young Kenyans who go out to develop the horticulture industry, currently a leading foreign exchange earner to the country. Graduates of the department can be found in key positions of the horticulture sector, and the wider economy, both locally and abroad.

The department has modern facilities for research and teaching. These include a tuition farm equipped with irrigation facilities, various well equipped laboratories, greenhouses, and other propagation structures. A departmental reference room is equipped with a collection of specialized reference material to supplement the main library collection. Various audiovisual equipment and modern computing facilities are available for students and staff.
