The GEGIS department recently held a Welfare party at AICAD restaurant, for various staff members. First was to wish our colleague Ms. Fridah Karimi all the best as she was leaving to further her studies in Germany. She will be pursuing a PHD at the University of Bonn.Staff members who were returning from academic leave were welcomed back, they included Mr Abel Kaburi , Mr Musa Kioo, Mr George Watene, Mr Moffat Magondu, Ms Rachel Umazi and Ms Eunice Nduati.
This year’s Internal attachment for the 2nd year students pursuing Geomatic Engineering and Geospatial Information Systems will commence on 5th May 2014. GIS training for Smallholder Dairy Commercialization Programme (SDCP) was officially opened on 01/07/2013 by Dr. David Kagima on behalf of Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) RPE. The training is a short course tailor made to suit the needs of SDCP daily activities as they strive to support sustainable engendered dairy development through use of participatory approaches and Market Oriented dairy Enterprise (MODE) process to enhance household incomes. The GIS training for Rural Electrification Authority (REA) was opened by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) RPE on 8/04/2013. The training is a short course tailor made to suit the needs of REA daily professional practice. JKUAT GEGIS department joined the world in marking the GIS Day on 14 November 2012. GIS day is celebrated all over the world to showcase how GIS impacts the problem solving. The event was graced by representatives of ESRI Eastern Africa, Oakar Services, Upande Limited, Regional Center for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), and The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), just to mention a few.
