The Department of Food Science and Technology was ably represented at the JKUAT Expo, 2013 with students show casing cutting edge innovations in the broader areas of Food, Technology and Nutrition. Student innovation projects from the Department excelled during the function. The innovations were showcased in Agriculture category under the theme: Harnessing Technology and Innovation to Attain Industrialization, Sustainable Economic Growth and Food Security. An innovation project titled ‘ Utilization of Jambolan fruit (Syzigium cumini) in fruit based products scooped the first prize in Agriculture category.
A new PhD programme in Food Science and Nutrition at the Department of Food Science and Technology, JKUAT was launched in September 2013 with a total of 7 candidates. Two of the candidates have been sponsored from DAAD.
The Faculty of Agriculture will work closely with Lanzhou University in Establish research network on Dry land ecology. The Faculty hopes to establish a Center of Dry land Agriculture in Kenya in Collaboration with Lanzhou University. The Dean will sign an MOU in Mid October 2013 with Lanzhou University which JKUAT already has and MOU with. JKUAT VC and Dean of Agriculture in a meeting with staff from Lanzhou University
