The 2014-2015 Internal Practical Attachment entered week two Monday 25th May 2015, with students trying their hands on different aspects of practical engineering. The Engineering Workshop Staff took some time off of their workstations on Friday and Saturday to bond. Lead by the Workshop Manager Dr. Peter Kihato, the team visited Abantu and Ol Pajeta where they had an opportunity to interact and make merry away from the formal workplace. The expansive Ol Pajeta offered an opportunity to see close range number of animals including Buffaloes Rhinos, Water Bucks and Wilde Beasts. Foundry shop will very soon benefit from staff innovation project by Mr Michael Mwai and Mr Omondi. They are in the final stage of assembly and commissioning oil fired furnace capable of achieving a temperature of 1600 degrees centigrade. This is a very important equipment that will enable engineering students increase their research scope on solidification science.

Due to the ongoing renovations at the department, our administrative office has been temporarily relocated to the Motor Vehicle Workshop. The new location shall be in operation for the entire duration of the renovations, and shall revert back to the original building after September 2015. Three Professors from Japan will visit the University early May 2015. During their visit, Professor Akira Okada (Okayama University), Associate Professor Atsutaka Tamura (Tottori University) and Assistant Professor Takahiro Akao (Tottori University) will present interesting topics in a seminar organized by the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, JKUAT. The 2014-2015 Internal Practical Attachment for the College of Engineering Students will begin in May 2015 and students in their second year of study will have the opportunity to use all the machines and equipment in the various Workshops.
