Our History

The Department of Civil Engineering, Construction  and Environmental  started  as one  of the  first  six department  on the  former Jomo Kenyatta  College of Agriculture and  Technology (JKCAT) It was known then as Building and Civil Engineering  and offered Technicians  PARTS I-III  certificates  from 1981. In  1989  the Department  started  offering  BSC in Civil Engineering alongside  Diploma in Civil Engineering and changed its name to Department of Civil Engineering shedding  off Building  that evolved into the current  SABS.

The Department started offering Post–graduate degree in 2002. The Master of Science programmes are aimed at producing specialized manpower of high caliber capable of conducting research. Later in 2003, saw the creation of another department of GEGIS to offer more specialized   and advanced surveying techniques.

The department assumed its current name in 2009 when it combined with GEGIS to form the School of Civil, and Geospatial Engineering (SCEGES) under the newly   formed College of Engineering and Technology (COETEC).
