Master of Science in Information Technology
Program Justification
M.Sc. in Information Technology is aimed at meeting market needs of the ICT sector by
providing a broad technical understanding of current and evolving technologies in the IT fieldwith an emphasis on moving technology from the laboratory to the realm of business
development through its program core courses. The course comprises of internal course
assessment, periodical assignments and seminars.

Students will design, document and develop robust, extensible and highly maintainable data intensiveapplications using cutting edge technologies tailored to the specific needs of anybusiness process, and effectively manage IS/IT projects, processes and professionals, with consideration of the human, financial and environmental factors and an understanding of risk, management processes, and operational and policy implications.

Target Groups
The course targets graduates and professionals from the public and private sector, business entrepreneurs other non-industrial organizations.

Program Objectives
Graduates of this program will be able to:
i. Examine the principles and theories underlying applied information technology
ii. Update skills in current and emerging technologies in Information Technology
iii. Use IT best practices to drive productivity and competitive advantage
iv. Apply IT in organizational decision making
v. Gain new knowledge of the technical and regulatory issues surrounding the Internet

Minimum Entry Requirements
1.1. The common regulations for the Masters degree in the University shall apply.
1.2. The common regulations for the Masters degree at the School of Computing and
Information technology (SCIT) shall apply.
1.3. The minimum requirements for eligibility into the Master of Science in Information
Technology are:
1.3.1. Holders of a Bachelor degree in Computing/Computer Science/Information
Technology/Business Information Technology/Computer Technology/Computer
Engineering or related field of at least Upper Second Class Honors from a
recognized University
1.3.2. Holders of a Bachelor degree in Computing/Computer Science/Information
Technology/Business Information Technology/Computer Technology/Computer
Engineering or related field of at least Lower Second Class Honors from a
recognized University with at least three years experience
1.3.3. Holders of a Bachelor in Computing/Computer Science/Information
Technology/Business Information Technology/Computer Technology/Computer
Engineering or related field a degree with a Pass and working experience of at
least five years.
1.3.4. Any other qualification from an institution recognized by senate and equivalent to
(1.3.1), (1.3.2) and (1.3.3) above.

Programme Structure And Duration
2.1. The programme shall run for a minimum of two academic years for full time students
and three academic years for part-time students
2.2. For full time students the first academic year shall have two semesters. Each semester
shall have six units. The second year shall be devoted to project leading to a thesis.
2.3. For part-time students the first and the second academic years shall be divided into three
semesters, each semester shall have two units. The third year shall be devoted to project
leading to a thesis.
