The Legume Centre of Excellence in Food and Nutrition Security (LCEFoNS) was launched on 11th April 2017.
It was officially launched by Belgium Ambassador to Kenya, Ms. Roxane de Bilderling, Principal Secretary Representative of Ministry of Education, Kenya, Mr. Archer Arina and Vice Chancellor, JKUAT, Prof. Mabel Imbuga.
This is an Institutional University Cooperation programme (IUC) funded by VLIR-UOS. It will be a 12 year partnership between JKUAT and Flemish Universities (KU LEUVEN and Vrije Universiteit Brussel-VUB). The LCEFoNS consists of four interrelated Projects 1. Legume Production and Breeding, Legume Post Harvest Handling and Value addition, Legumes in Nutrition and Health and ICT support for Legume research. Its aim being enhancement of JKUAT’s Teaching and Research Capacity.
The event attracted participants from diversified fields in Academia, Research Institutions, Government and NGOs.
