A Competition Week?!! Yes, a competition week prepared by the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK). Right now am sure you’ve a feeling like it’s on April fool’s day but I can reassure you it’s not. It was declared so by the UN, and it is celebrated across the world as World Competition Day; this year’s theme shall be: BUILDING CAPACITY IN COMPETITION LAW & POLICY.
The CAK is a State Agency established under the Competition Act No 12 of 2010 of the Laws of Kenya. These Authority is mandated to promote and safeguard competition in the national economy and to protect consumers from unfair and misleading market conduct. The Authority intends to carry out sensitization to create awareness amongst Kenyan consumers at large and other stakeholders, and as well as educate them on its mandate.
These initiative shall be undertaken by the Authority during the week of 5th – 9th Dec. 2016 which is also coinciding with the World Competition Day celebrated on 5th Dec. annually. These day is celebrated by Competition Agencies across the globe with the aim of raising awareness on competition issues and the importance of having and regulating competition in a liberalized market for the benefit of the society.
Won’t we love to hear and learn from these Authority? Yes, information is POWER! We as a University Community would like to welcome CAK to visit our institution. Therefore, staff members, lecturers, students, neighboring institutions and other stakeholders are highly invited to these occasion which shall be on Friday, 9th Dec. 2016 as from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm.
The presentation shall focus on the following topics as outlined:-
- Competition Law, Economic Policy and Consumer Protection issues.
- Programmes available at CAK for students and graduates e.g. Young Professional Programme (YYP), Internship opportunities and Annual Essay Writing Competition.
- Proposed Centre for Competition Law and Economic Policy (CCLEP).
- Opportunities for Collaborations.
