JKUAT Kisii CBD campus was established in May 2010 and was put under the leadership of Prof. J. M. Ochora who became the first Director of the campus. Through his precise and fearless directives, the campus has grown from height to height and is now uniquely and highly placed in this very competitive academic market of Kisii region. Just to mention, the Kisii region specifically Kisii town where our campus is situated has over twenty (20) academic institutions each eyeing to obtain a share in the academic market. What a fierce competition but JKUAT Kisii CBD campus is truly testifying why its Setting Trends in Higher Education, Research and Innovation; the current student population stands at over 1200 undertaking various programs at Certificate, Diploma, Undergraduate & Postgraduate levels.
Despite these high competition, Kisii CBD campus has taken shape and commands its fair share of this academic market. As a show of might within the region, the campus has a steady increase in the student population and staff personnel which has thus far led to the formation of three (3) major departments namely; I.T & Mathematics, Social Sciences and lastly Health Sciences. The departments are also taking shape evidently shown by the introduction of new courses, e.g. PhD Applied Mathematics, Msc Finance, and Masters in Public Health among others.
At the Handing Over ceremony which took place within the campus premises on 14th July, 2014, the outgoing Director Prof. J. M. Ochora congratulated the staff fraternity and especially the incoming Director Prof. J. K. Sigey for the support they gave to his administration. “We could not have achieved it if it were not for you,” he said, “the support you’ve granted my administration give also to the incoming Director.”
Prof. J. K. Sigey who is also the incoming Director and formerly the Deputy Director of Kisii CBD challenged his staff to join in teamwork and forge a formidable team that would see the campus grow even to greater heights, whereby someday we’d have the Campus become a College and a Principal as the head. This sentiment was unanimously agreed upon and echoed by the staff members who were given opportunity to give their remarks.
The challenge is enormous and the task is daunting but JKUAT Kisii CBD campus fraternity is confident that the incoming Pilot Captain shall fly this campus to even greater heights. We can only offer our appreciations to Prof. J. M. Ochora who made this campus to be what it is today, and hope that his former co-pilot shall take it all the way.
