Microbiologists work for a variety of employers, i.e government, county health departments, and academic institutions. They may also be employed by pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, food and beverage industries, and manufacturing companies.
Many microbiologists conduct research in laboratories, as well as work in offices, where they write up the results of their experiments. Academic microbiologists often teach classes, in addition to conducting their own research.
