Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) participated in the 7th Exhibitions on Higher Education, Science and Technology held at The Diamond Jubilee Hall, Dar es Salaam from 18th to 20th April 2012. The Exhibitions were organized by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).
This year’s theme was “Empowering Communities through Science, Technology and Innovation”.
The objectives of the exhibition were:
- Create awareness among the general public on the importance of higher education contribution on socio-economic development
- Provide opportunities to Higher Education institutions to publicize their functions and success
- Enable the public and prospective applicants interact with the exhibitors to be able to make informed choices
- Sensitize the public on the process of application through the Central Admission System (CAS)
The University was represented by Dr. Michael Iravo from JKUAT, main campus, Ms Juliana Shem, Administrator, JKUAT Arusha Centre and Mr. Sifuna Mulya, Accountant, JKUAT Arusha Centre.
There were a total of 65 participants from within and outside the country.
The exhibitions ware officially opened by the Vice President of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Gharib Bilal on Wednesday 18th April 2012 and closed on Friday 20th by the TCU chairman Prof. Awadh Mawenya. The JKUAT team marketed JKUAT programs using banners, brochures and explaining to the clients the programs offered and how they can join JKUAT.
JKUAT booth was priviledged to be visited by the Vice President Dr. Bilal who, inter alia, wanted to know what JKUAT has brought in Tanzania.
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
A large number of the visitors, both parents and potential students expressed interests in taking up JKUAT courses. Many of the visitors asked on the possibility of the University opening a Centre in Dar es Salaam. Some of them wanted to know when Arusha Centre will start offering master’s programs especially in business related fields. Some of them wanted to know about availability of hostel facilities.
