JKUAT becomes the first institution in the region to develop Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) curriculum. The training which will be launched in September this year, is designed to develop market driven skills and knowledge needed to drive the fast-paced BPO sector. It is estimated that the industry has the potential to create 80,000 jobs and generate Kshs. 40 billion annually hence supporting the realization of making Kenya a regional hub in BPO as espoused in the Vision 2030. However, findings filed by a taskforce commissioned by the Ministry of Information and Communication, showed that despite enormous business growth in the sector, there was lack of coordinated training. The study acknowledged that in order to boost the development of BPO skills, there was need to develop a curriculum that will meet international standards in addressing emerging trends in the BPO industry.
To bridge this gap, JKUAT in partnership with Direct Channel Simba Tech Kenya, a leading BPO service provider and trainer have developed a curriculum for the Certificate in Business Process Outsourcing. This program will provide competencies that will empower players to effectively exploit emerging opportunities in the BPO sector. It is also expected that there will be progression of this programme to diploma and degree levels to further enrich the sector.
