The Institute was established in 1990 to focus on research and training on energy and environmental technologies. The institute is putting a lot of emphasis in innovations and development of energy and environmental technologies. This is particularly so in the research projects at the institutes and capacity building for technology transfer through post graduate technology oriented training programs. The institute strives to be a centre of excellence in energy and environmental technologies. This includes development of cleaner production technologies for adoption in industries, innovations in renewable energy and non-renewable energy technologies to help alleviate energy shortages and reduce global warming which we are currently experiencing.
The Institute of Energy and Environmental Technology is under the Research, Production and Extension (R.P.E) division of JKUAT and is headed by a director. Currently the staff members comprise of senior research fellows, research fellow and technologists in both sections (Environmental and Energy sections).
