Dr. John Kihoro, the Deputy Director in charge of Curriculum and Delivery, School of Open, Distance and e-Learning has received accolades for championing the adoption and uptake of e-learning in the country. The recognition was made at the KENET Annual Vice Chancellors and Heads of Institutions Forum held December 10th-11th, 2012 at the Mombasa Serena Hotel.
Dr. Kihoro led the successful KENET funded e-learning project dubbed: “e-Learning Eco-System for Implementation of Mobile Learning”. The statistician-turned-ICT guru is a passionate champion for the utilization of appropriate technologies in expanding e-learning opportunities to university students and staff.
JKUAT was also recognized for being the Third Highest KENET Bandwidth Consumer during 2011/2012 academic year. The Certificate of Recognition was received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mabel Imbuga.
During the forum, Permanent Secretary, MoHEST, Prof. Crispus Kiamba endeared the participants with a presentation on the vast resources available locally and internationally for the advancement of higher education, science and technology in Kenya. He urged the Vice Chancellors and Heads of Educational institutions to take advantage of the vitality and level playing field brought about by the Universities Act 2012. The forum was also attended by Mr. B. M. Kiula, member of KENET Management Board and immediate former ICT Director, JKUAT.
